“BUSHY TALES” is, apart from being a catchy little bit of word-play, a comic strip featuring the bush animals of Australia. Many people around the world know of these animals, especially ones like the koala and kangaroo, but BUSHY TALES introduces readers to a wider variety of Australia’s rare and lovable creatures.

The central character is DOUG (Burrows), a wombat…and the rest of the cast, all with their own idiosyncratic personalities, combine to make the strip reflect the heart and warmth of a very natural, yet eclectic, community…and one which readers will readily warm to and appreciate. Indeed, readers will probably even find “themselves” in this interesting cast of characters.

One of the major hallmarks of BUSHY TALES is the quality and style of the artwork. Ian has very intentionally set out to create a comic strip that was more than just simple line drawings and talking heads. The strip, in its pure black and white form, or in its beautifully coloured version, presents a visual feel that complements the warmth and whimsy of the characters and the humorous storylines.

The artist Ian Jones is married to Robyn (34 years) and they have seven children and four grandchildren!

He has had a very varied life with a huge range of interesting, and challenging, experiences. He trained as a schoolteacher and spent many years teaching young children; he has been a church pastor and the national director of a Christian humanitarian organization; he has spent time in over 27 countries getting to know the people and the cultures from a very down-to-earth and independent perspective; he prefers the country to the city and has had a life-long interest in horses and spent a few years trying, rather unsuccessfully, to make some money from breeding part-Arabian horses.

And, of course, he is a cartoonist! A very experienced and accomplished one, too.

He has been a published daily comic strip cartoonist since 1980 with most of those years being spent on his very popular PEARLY GATES comic strip. After being published every day for over 20 years Ian took a break from the world of daily deadlines. It turned out to be a bit longer than expected, but he is now back at the drawing board, refreshed and excited to be producing his best work ever with his new feature, BUSHY TALES!
