Charlie Chaplin can be described with three simple words: Comedian, Rebel and Humanist. These three words are the key to discovering a man regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. He possessed an amazing and unique ability to make us laugh until we cried.
Charlie Chaplin is one of the world’s most famous comedians ever. Charlie Spencer Chaplin was born in London on 16 April, 1889. He made his debut when he was merely 10 years old with the play “The Eight Lancashire Lads” where he received standing ovations for his performance. Throughout the years, he managed to produce a great number of popular films, mostly around the time of WW1.
What made Charlie Chaplin so famous? Many have admired his ability to stick wholeheartedly to silent films right when sound films were at their peak. In 1936, ten years after the introduction of sound films, Charlie bought a silent film that received the best reviews of that entire year. The movie was called “Modern Times.”
Chaplin was the only artist who had the courage to address the range of problems affecting America: unemployment and unchecked capitalism.
